Dr. Hak Ja Han, affectionately known as the "Mother of Peace

USPA NEWS - Dr. Hak Ja Han, affectionately known as the "Mother of Peace," is a Korean religious leader and humanitarian who's dedicated her life to promoting peace, unity, and reconciliation worldwide. Born on February 10, 1943, in North Korea, she co-founded the Universal Peace Federation with her late husband, Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon, and has been a driving force behind various peace initiatives, including the Women's Federation for World Peace and the Sun Hak Peace Prize.

As the leader of the Unification Church, Dr. Han has traveled extensively, advocating for interfaith dialogue, women's empowerment, and global peace. She's spoken at the United Nations, the U.S. Capitol, and other prominent forums, inspiring millions with her message of love, compassion, and unity.

Sadly, Dr. Han ( Mother Moon ) was arrested in South Korea in September 2025 on bribery charges, sparking international concern and support from human rights advocates, faith communities, and women's organizations. Many view her detention as a politically motivated attack on religious freedom, and there's a growing call for her release .

To the Korean Government, Dr. Hak Ja Han, ( MOTHER MOON ) the 82-year-old leader of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, We respectfully urge the release of Dr. Hak Ja Han, the Mother of Peace, on humanitarian grounds considering her age and significant contributions to global peace initiatives. I do REQUEST release her immediately and unconditionally. Her detention is seen as a violation of human rights and an attack on religious freedom. Mother Moon, has dedicated her life to promoting peace and reconciliation, and her work should be recognized and respected. Her work has inspired millions worldwide, and her dedication to interfaith cooperation, family values, and world peace is widely recognized. As she is elderly, we request that bail be accepted in the form of transferring her house to ensure her release and allow her to continue her vital work. As an Ambassador for Peace from the London Head Office, I stand with Mother Moon in these difficult circumstances, keeping in mind her services, and the people I have introduced to UPF London are all ready to make any kind of sacrifice like Childern of Mother Moon. I request that “the mother of peace " Dr Hak Ja Han be released immediately as she has done no crime whatsoever and her detention is not justified . As an Ambassador of Peace, I express concern over the request by South Korea’s Special Prosecutor for an arrest warrant against Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, President of the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification. At 83, while undergoing cardiac treatment, Dr. Moon voluntarily appeared for questioning on 17 September 2025, fully cooperating with the authorities. Her actions reflect respect for South Korean law and the principle of due process. Pursuing custodial detention in these circumstances is disproportionate and risks undermining both humanitarian values and South Korea’s legal principles. I urge the authorities to adopt a non-custodial approach, showing compassion toward an elderly leader who has dedicated her life to peace, dialogue, and service to humanity. The illegal arrest of Mother Moon in South Korea is a blatant violation of international norms of justice and human rights. This shameful act appears to be an attempt to harass and humiliate an elderly lady whose late husband and whose own lifelong work for peace is acknowledged and respected across the globe. Such actions undermine the rule of law, human dignity, and internationally accepted standards of fair treatment. We strongly demand her immediate and unconditional release and call upon global human rights organizations to take urgent notice of this grave injustice. I am deeply saddened to learn that MOTHER MOON who is over 80 years old and who has worked for peace all over the world and created thousands of peace ambassadors is being illegally imprisoned and arrested. As an Ambassador for Peace with the Universal Peace Federation, I, Aurang Zaib Chaudhary. strongly and deeply condemn the arrest of the Mother of Peace, Mother Moon. My heart is heavy as I speak out against this injustice. I was informed by my good friend Aurang Zeb Akber, who is also an Ambassador for Peace with the Universal Peace Federation. Mother Moon is 82 years old and has been imprisoned for more than 100 days. This is not justice. This is a violation of humanity, compassion, and peace.
